The challenge

As leaders in pump rentals across the UK, the Selwood team have a duty to their customers to deliver the best products and a superior service. With the nature of the rental business meaning their pumps are moving from customer to customer and site to site, it was becoming even more important that the team had a way to monitor and maintain these moving assets.

A static solution for a moving problem

Remote monitoring in the rentals industry has always been a challenge and something not faced by permanent installations. The team had a telemetry system in place that allowed faults and issues to be reported and delivered by text message, this solution was seen as static as it didn't allow for live data collection and monitoring.

The Solution

Origin were brought in as the experts in remote monitoring. The team were tasked with creating a truly smart solution - a piece of kit that could carry out multiple functions depending on the location and rental type.

Implementing their unique solution

Designed for electric pump rentals, the Origin team delivered a way for Selwood and their customers to access a single shot, Selwood branded dashboard which details the health of the pump rental. This remote monitoring tool allows the Selwood team to proactively stay ahead of the needs of their clients.

Forewarned and Forearmed

The detailed data delivered via the Origin system gives engineers the information they need ahead of time to rectify client issues in the most efficient way. From bringing the correct parts for repairs, to preempting and providing additional support and expertise, engineers can assess the specific requirements before arriving at the site.

The Installation

The Selwood solution encompasses the Origin remote monitoring sensors and branded Selwatch IoT dashboard for live data delivery to internal and client teams.

This complex mobile problem required a bespoke solution. The Origin team worked closely in partnership with Selwood to deliver an initial system in under 6 months and together they continue to adapt and build on the system to ensure it keeps up with the ever increasing service levels of the Selwood team.

Not only does the Selwatch IoT system offer live data, but it allows for historical data to be interrogated to find root causes and prevent future issues. The complexity of the challenge posed by Selwood has resulted in a truly versatile system, which now 2 years down the line is continuing to be improved through the close partnership of the Origin and Selwood teams.
